The midterm election results reflect a divided America that has lost its moral fabric.
With just a couple of races still in the balance the day after a historical midterm election turn-out, there is enough data available to paint a clear picture on where the electorate stands and where we the people, stand as a society. The results reflect a divided America that has lost its moral fabric. Once a country heralded as a beacon of hope and prosperity for all, the U.S. is now a country polarized by ideology driven by fear mongering, nationalism, protectionism, and misinformation.

The tipping point came in June of 2016 when Senator Paul Ryan met with then Presidential nominee Donald Trump. At that meeting a decision was reached that the Republican establishment would back Donald Trump’s presidential bid as the majority leader. There, they outlined the priorities of the party (aka, to do list) and also put in place their insurance policy in the form of Governor Mike Pence of Indiana. I believe that it was at this critical juncture that the GOP made the strategic decision to back Donald Trump at any cost, including compromising the will and principles of the Republican Party.
Since then, Trump detractors became Trump loyalists and it was no longer about upholding the principles of the Lincoln, Reagan party but rather to give in to special interests at the expense of the very foundation that made America great. Therein, lies the irony. History is repeating itself, but not the good history. In some circles, the idea of succession is a real topic of discussion with many wanting to go back to the days of the colonies. This type of idealism is not the type that builds forward thinking societies, but rather promotes a deceleration to industry innovations and human values. For the past two years the GOP (to their credit) put forth a plan that would enable them to roll back important regulations in banking, trade, environment and civil rights with the express purpose of causing chaos and confusion. It is true that a balance needed to occur in foreign trade and tax policy, but the result has been a 50% increase in the national debt in just 18 months and an increase in prices at the register for consumers. This burn rate is highly unsustainable and will no doubt lead to yet another debt default crisis greater than the one of 2008.
Part of the GOP playbook includes their willingness to concede the House in exchange for a Supreme Court judge .
Along with the aforementioned plan, part of the GOP playbook includes their willingness to concede the House in exchange for a Supreme Court judge in hopes that one of two outcomes may occur:
1) They will now place the responsibility squarely on the Democrats to police the President and uncover any improprieties that may exist while the Republicans continue to sit on their hands and circumvent their responsibilities as caretakers of the republic.
2) Should the Democrats succeed then the Republicans will jump on the bandwagon. However, should the Democrats fail to take down the President, then the GOP will continue to push an agenda of division and misinformation into the 2020 Elections.
In either scenario, the GOP will look like winners as long as they can continue to have Trump do their dirty deeds, they will remain laissez faire while the Democrats try and clean up the mess. Advantage: GOP
